1. Gannersbury Park Museum

The Gannersbury Park Museum is located Regency style building which used to be a residence of the famous Rothschild banking family from 1835. Today the museum houses a superb display of social history which reflects colourful social life of the Rothschilds. The exhibition also includes local archaeological finds, interesting items related to local business history as well as Rothschild coaches, costumes, and the original Victorian kitchens. The museum is surrounded by a large park with gardens, woods and lakes; sports facilities (tennis courts, football, mini golf and cricket pitches).
Some attractions are available only during the summer season.

2. London Museum of Water and Steam

London Museum of Water and Steam tells the story of London’s water supply and exhibits working steam pumping. The best time to visit are weekends as the Steam Hall rotative engines are only in steam most weekends, with the Cornish engines only running on selected weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays. During weekends visitors may also ride London’s only narrow gauge railway.

1. Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival

This Halloween Beer Festival is featuring aver 100 beers from Britain, ciders and wine. Most beers will be £4 or less and there’ll be food to complement the drinks. Free entry, free face painting and free soft drinks for kids. There will be live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evening and the Rugby World Cup matches to watch on large screens. If you turn up in costume on Saturday, you can enter for free.

Place: Royal Victoria Patriotic Building in Wandsworth.

2. The Halloween Playground in North London

Come to the Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End in north London to enjoy live music, silent disco, DJs, cabaret, circus performance and zombie cinema as well as other freaky antics. This is a ticketed event, the ticket price includes a warming whisky on arrival.

How to learn English with films


Are you a big movie fan? Are English classes (or work) destroying your precious TV watching time? Well this is your lucky day. Here is an English learning technique for you which combines both study and pleasure.

We should all know about switching on the subtitles on the TV or DVD player by now. You can usually turn on the subtitles for your language or into English, depending on the original language. This is a reasonably useful tool, especially for reading and writing development. But subtitles can easily just turn into a lazy way of reading movies, you probably won’t develop all the necessary skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) in an even manner. Also let’s face it, automatic subtitles can drive you crazy with typos, delays and random errors.
The way to really get learning in a big way via watching loads of movies is actually a little different from what you might imagine.
